Base stone is made up of a mixture of limestone gravel. It ranges in size from ½ inch to 1 inch. Since it is a coarse grade of gravel, it isn’t a good choice for decorative ground coverage. Instead, it is ideal as a foundation for landscape projects such as patios, walkways and driveways. It is the best base material for laying down natural stone pavers or concrete. It can also be used as backfill for a trench or to stabilize unpaved roads.
